            MOON RISING TOURNAMENT PACK

(Edited 29 December 2017 to confirm that Clash of Kings 2017 rules will be in play during the tournament, including for army selection.)

            GENERAL

Moon Rising is a one day Kings of War event to be held at Salisbury Legion on Saturday 24 February 2018.

The tournament is intended to provide a series of challenging and enjoyable games. We also hope to attract newcomers to the tournament scene by introducing a handicap system and having some prizes specifically for tournament novices.

The price for entry is £10, by Paypal Friends and Family, to: Salisburylegionwargamingclub@hotmail.com

            THE GAMES

Four games will be held during the day, two at 1,000 points and two at 1.995 points. 7th turn rules will be used.
Clash of Kings 2017 rules will apply.

            ARMY SELECTION

Army selection follows the procedure laid down in the rule book as amended by the Clash of Kings 2017 rules. Note that Clash of Kings 2017 rules will also be in force during tournament play.

You will require a 1,000 point army and a 1,995 point army. Both armies must be from the same Mantic army list but are otherwise unrelated and do not have to contain the same units. You may take allies from one army, but if you take allies in both of your armies they must be from the same Mantic army list.

For the 1,995 point games, you may take a maximum of 2 of the same war machines, heroes or monsters.

Heroes and formations from Edge of the Abyss and Destiny of Kings may not be taken.

The following artefacts may not be taken in armies:
             Ensorcelled armour.
             Brew of Keen-Eyedness.
             Medallion of Life.

            ARMY LISTS

Army lists are to be submitted in advance by 17 February to: jongunns@btinternet.com
You should take 2 copies of each of your army lists on the day in order to allow your opponent to have a copy during games.

            HANDICAP SYSTEM

In order to encourage newcomers to the tournament scene, a handicap system will be in place.
 Players ranked within the top 50 of the UK KoW rankings will start with handicap of zero.
 All other players will start with a handicap of 1.
 Each game that you lose during the tournament increases your handicap by 1.
(You could end up with a handicap of 4 going into the final game!)

At the start of each game, compare handicaps. The player with the higher handicap has a number of free re-rolls equal to the difference in handicap rating.

Each free re-roll allows you to re-roll up to 2 dice during your turn.
 If re-rolling a roll involving 2 dice, such as a nerve test, both dice must be re-rolled. For any other roll you may re-roll one or 2 dice.
             A re-roll may not be re-rolled.

Games match-ups will be pre-determined and you will face opponents with a variety of skills and experience during the tournament.

            TERRAIN

Buildings, rock outcrops: Height 4, blocking
            Forests: Height 4, difficult terrain
            Swamps: Height 0, difficult terrain
            Hills: Height 2
Obstacles: Height 1, provide cover but do not block LOS

            GAMES

            Game 1. 1,000 points. Dominate.
            Game 2. 1,000 points. Loot.
            Game 3. 1,995 points. Invade.
Game 4. 1,995 points. Pillage. Six objective markers.

            TIME OUT

Running out of time is not an automatic loss. You may not roll any more dice in the game but in your movement phase you may issue halt or change facing orders.

            THE TEAM TOURNAMENT

Running concurrently with the singles tournament will be a team tournament.
Teams will comprise a minimum of 3 players but there is no maximum number of members.
The best 9 scores from each team will be added together to make a team score.

            SCORING

After each game, Tournament Points (TPs) will be assigned as follows:
            Win: 15 points
            Draw: 10 points
            Loss: 5 points
Scores will then be modified to reflect attrition inflicted on the enemy:

Looks like Iíll be able to come to this event. Is the venue close to the Horned Moon Coaching Inn, of which One hears such good reports? If so, I might even be tempted to stay overnight to sample itís delights.

Sorry, we had not realised that the tournament clashes with the third preliminary heat (southern division) of the annual Sarum Cheese and Wine Rolling Championships and the Horned Moon Coaching Inn is already fully booked.

The tournament is now fully booked. Welcome to all attending.

Please remember that army lists are required to be sent to me at jongunns@btinternet.com by 17 February. I would like the lists to be submitted in easy army format if possible. Donít forget that you will need a 1,000 point list and a 1,995 point list.

Please also confirm when you submit lists whether you are playing in a team and who the other team members are. This will be important to ensure that during the draw team mates are not drawn to play against each other.

Please also state whether you have previously attended a tournament.
