FORUMS CLOSING

Hi everyone,

This is some advance warning that these forums will be closing shortly. The last day will be the 17th December 2018. We have noticed over the past couple of years that traffic on the forum and regular users have both decreased. As a result we’ve taken the difficult decision to close the forums. We’ll still be able to answer rules questions via social media and we’ll produce articles on the Mantic Blog too.

Many thanks to all of you for your contributions and conversations on the pages here. Special thanks are extended to the moderators who have kept things ticking over for us in the background.

If there is any content you wish to keep, please download and save it before the final closing date.

  • The Throng of Ahkalaz - Abyssal Dwarf WIP

    Hello,
I wrote a blog post on my plan to make a multi-system army

I will be using this forum post to show how it is going so far

      Commendable!

Recentely I've been invited to play some 9th age. The guy who invited me tried KoW for me, so I feel obliged to do so.
This means that either my KoM/League army will return as empire and my undead become vampire counts again. The multibasing doesn;t help, but I have some single-based models left over from ebaying whole armies. The rest will have to do as unit-fillers. (a KoW regiment is of course 20 man. Thing is, in 9th age, 20 man is a lot.)

I'm really curious how your endeavors work out!

Final thing: on your blog you write:

"Now some tournaments would be restrictive when it comes to models used, Games Workshop hosted events being strict on their own models being used, which is completely reasonable"

I don;t think this is completely reasonable. Of course, a company can do whatever it wants, but I think this attitude is not good for the hobby as a whole. It creates a "we are the only way to go" attitude which I distinctly dislike. It's this attitude which led GW to monopolize their IP and ultimately to the destruction of the old world. (if we cannot monopolize it, just destroy it and we're going to do something we can).

Sorry, just an old rant. Still harbouring a grudge towards Greed Workshop.

The way Mantic allows other companies' models to be used in their armies while still operating a business, is I think the way to go.

        Thanks!

As I left Fantasy in about 7th edition, I think 9th Age (Version 1 anyway) will be more familiar. What I have seen from Kings Of War has blown me away though. Simple rules, but doesn't seem dumbed down in anyway.

I may find a way to multibase yet as Unit Fillers have always been part of my past Fantasy armies. So I'm sure I can creep in a 40x40mm base in there!

I much prefer the Mantic/9th Age approach of letting any minis to be used. While I can't say I was playing Warhammer during the "Converted Deodorant Hover Tank" phase, I started when they were quite laid back when it came to models. The Vehicle Design Rules (VDR) being a highlight for my 40k playing.

A hell of a lot changed after the Lord Of The Rings game came out. Even White Dwarf became a tad more serious.

I think it is reasonable if they are being hosted in their stores or Warhammer World, in the same way as I try to buy and play in the same store. But then again, GW used to have a roughly 90% rule when it came to that. Which I find it a shame as I would have loved to have used some of the Pig Iron accessories when I planned out my Chaos Space Marine armies.

I have scribbled together some fluff on my multi-system Dwarf Lord. https://thegngrnoob.wordpress.com/20...round-ahkalaz/

Besides that I am looking at ways to convert my Mantic Abyssal Dwarfs to fit the image I have in my head. Adding old Warhammer curly beards is a must though!
